VAHAN: Then and Now
In the 1880s, Manasse Der Calousdian opened a small jewelry shop in Paris, France, which he passed onto his son, Arsene Der Calousdian, in the 1930s. Then, in 1968, Arsene passed the family business down to his son, Sacha Der Calousdian, and from here VAHAN was born. Sacha studied at a premier jewelry design school, and after spending 20 years designing jewelry for companies like Cartier and Hermès, he took over the Parisian storefront and gave it a new name: Alwand Vahan. Every piece of jewelry that came from this store began with a hand-drawn sketch in a small Manhattan studio, with the design and production process happening right here in the United States.
Today, Sacha and his wife Natalie continue to further the family’s tradition, and when their son Greg joined the family business in 2009, they did not doubt that the family legacy would live on. After graduating college, Greg spent years working for Brooks Brothers, Louis Vuitton, and Mark Jacobs, and when he came back to work for his father, he brought with him an expertise in digital media.
